Respraying walls and ceilings with latex paint

Consider the following scenario: you buy a home and everything looks fairly neat at first glance.

During the viewing, you looked closely at the condition of everything and secretly thought that you would have very little to do. We can move right in!

We certainly do not want to burst your bubble, but reality often shows that after the previous residents move out, some maintenance is still required. Or at the very least: the walls and ceilings could certainly use a refresh.

Your entire home fully resprayed within 1 day

You could, of course, get started with a roller yourself. Ultimately, that works fine too. The only question is: are you really going to start? Painting your entire home, including all ceilings, all over again?

And if you have just bought a house, there are likely plenty of other things you could spend your free evenings and weekends on.

It is precisely for these types of homes that respraying existing paintwork is an interesting solution. When the existing walls and ceilings are still in good condition, they do not always need to be replastered.

We can respray the existing paintwork directly with professional latex paint. From ceiling to wall and from living room to bedroom. This gives the entire home a fresh, calm, and well-maintained appearance in a very short time.

Respraying existing paintwork instead of replastering

A wall does not have to be perfectly new to be resprayed.

Is the existing paintwork still firmly attached and is the underlying plasterwork still sufficiently smooth? Then in many cases, we can spray directly over it.

That makes a significant difference. Replastering not only means extra costs, but also additional work and drying time. Afterwards, the new plasterwork often needs to be pre-treated before it can finally be painted.

Is the existing surface still in good condition? Then none of that is necessary.

When is respraying a good option?

  • The walls and ceilings have already been painted.
  • The existing paintwork is firmly attached.
  • The surface is sufficiently even.
  • There are mainly signs of use, discoloration, or minor damage.
  • You want a different color or simply want everything to be fresh white again.
  • You want to be able to move into the home quickly.
  • You do not want to carry out a complete renovation when it is not actually necessary.

Having both walls and ceilings resprayed

While you are at it, we usually advise you not to look only at the walls.

Especially in an existing home, you notice after a few years that ceilings have also become less fresh. Old repairs, discolorations, different shades of white, or simply wear and tear over the years suddenly stand out much more when the walls look smooth again.

By respraying both the walls and the ceilings, the entire home becomes a cohesive whole.

That difference is often greater than you expect beforehand.

Before and after: what a new layer of latex can do

The living room below is a beautiful example of this.

The basis of the home was fine. The walls did not need to be replastered and no structural work was required for the ceilings. But after clearing the space, it became clear that the existing finish had accumulated quite a few signs of use.

After performing some minor preparatory work, we completely resprayed the walls and ceilings.

The result: the same home, the same walls, and the same ceilings, but visually a completely different space.

Why latex spraying is so suitable for an existing home

The main advantage of latex spraying lies primarily in the speed with which large surfaces can be finished.

With professional airless spray equipment, we can treat large walls and ceilings much faster than when everything is painted traditionally with a roller. And this is ideal, especially for an empty home.

There is no furniture yet, the floor often still needs to be replaced or finished, and you have not fully moved in yet. That is the perfect moment to tackle the entire home at once.

A complete home in one go

Instead of first painting the living room, then a bedroom, and tackling the ceiling a few weeks later, we can handle multiple rooms in succession.

In many existing homes, we can complete the actual spraying of walls and ceilings within one day. How much preparation is required for this naturally depends on the size of the home and the condition of the surface.

That is why we always carefully assess what is needed beforehand.

What does respraying walls and ceilings cost?

The costs for respraying existing paintwork vary per home.

It is not just the number of square meters that determines the price. The amount of masking work, the condition of the existing surface, the number of rooms, and any preparatory work also play a role.

A home that is completely empty and where the walls and ceilings are already neat can, of course, be treated much more efficiently than a home where a lot of repair work is needed.

Therefore, we prefer to provide a clear quote beforehand based on your specific home.

When is it better to have replastering done?

Respraying is not intended to hide poor plasterwork.

Are the walls heavily damaged, are there many holes, dents, or cracks, is the existing plasterwork coming loose, or do you want perfectly smooth walls while they are currently quite uneven? Then replastering may be the better choice.

But if the foundation is good and the home mainly needs a major refresh? Then respraying is often a much simpler solution.

Just bought a home? This is the ideal time

The best time to have a complete home resprayed is actually very simple: before you move in.

The rooms are empty, we can easily access everything, and you do not have to empty entire rooms or move furniture first.

If you have the walls and ceilings tackled immediately after the key handover, you can then proceed with the flooring, interior design, and moving.

And instead of painting room by room for months, you start immediately with a fresh foundation.

Want to have walls and ceilings resprayed?

Have you bought a home and are you unsure whether the existing paintwork is suitable for respraying?

Then send us a few overview photos of the rooms. Based on those, we can often accurately estimate what is needed and whether respraying is an interesting solution in your situation.

This way, you will quickly know where you stand and can decide whether to spend several weekends with a roller yourself…

…or whether we should give the home a completely fresh start in one go.
