An even ceiling without roller marks
Bands and imperfections are particularly noticeable on ceilings, especially near large windows or in light falling across the surface. Airless spraying distributes the paint evenly. On a properly prepared surface, this creates a calm, matt appearance.
Paint does not level a ceiling by itself. We first assess the existing finish, cracks and any stains, so you know what result is possible and what preparation is needed.
What type of ceiling would you like spray painted?
Spray painting a newly plastered ceiling
A newly plastered ceiling is ready for painting once the plaster is sufficiently dry. We assess the surface and agree on the preparation needed. A suitable primer and fully opaque paint finish give the ceiling its final appearance.

Respraying an existing ceiling
Has your ceiling lost its freshness or is it ready for a new colour? We assess the existing coating for loose paint, damage and contamination. Tell us about smoke or water stains beforehand, as these may need different preparation from a clean ceiling.

Repainting spray-plaster and textured ceilings
We can refresh the colour of spray-plaster or other textured ceilings with wall paint. The existing texture remains visible; spray painting is the paint finish. If you want a smooth ceiling, the surface must first be levelled. Mention this when you enquire.
A matt white ceiling or another colour?
We use SPS Easytop Extra Mat S1, an extra matt wall paint with wet scrub resistance class 1. Its matt appearance suits ceilings beautifully, keeping the focus on the room and interior.
Your ceiling does not have to be white. Match it to the walls or choose a contrasting shade. Unsure about white shades? Read about the difference between RAL 9010 and RAL 9016.
If you have walls and ceilings painted in different colours, we charge for a colour change and schedule an extra working day. If you only want the ceiling painted, we plan the masking around the walls that will remain as they are.

How much does ceiling spray painting cost?
The cost depends on the ceiling area, surface and protection required. Painting only the ceiling in a finished room needs different preparation from painting walls and ceilings together in an empty home.
- Area and access: how many square metres are involved, and is the ceiling unusually high or sloping?
- Surface: new plaster, existing paint or texture, including any repairs or stain treatment needed.
- Protection: which walls, floors and fixed fittings need to remain as they are?
- Colour and scope: ceiling only, or walls too, with any colour change required.
Our wall spray painting costs page lists the price bands and optional extras. The bands apply to the total area being sprayed. You receive an itemised quote for your ceiling. Protective floor covering is an optional extra and is not included as standard.
What should you prepare yourself?
Make sure the rooms we will paint are empty and easily accessible. New plaster must be sufficiently dry. We agree beforehand which preparation we will carry out and which items you need to remove.
For ceiling work, this includes lights, spotlights and other fittings that may get in the way. Let us know whether the walls are already finished and whether flooring, a kitchen or other fixed furnishings are in place. This lets us accurately include the protection work in your quote.
We mask the items that need protection as part of the agreed work. Floor protection is arranged separately; we can provide protective covering. Please also provide access to water, electricity and toilet facilities. See our preparation checklist.
How we work
- Enquiry and advice. Tell us which ceilings you want painted, their current finish and whether the walls should remain untouched. We contact you after your enquiry and are happy to visit to inspect and measure. If the property is not yet accessible, we discuss the work by phone.
- A clear quote. You receive an email detailing the work and chosen options, including preparation and protection arrangements. If we have measured the area, your invoice will not increase because of a difference in measurements. Once you accept, we confirm the work date.
- Preparing the space. You provide empty, accessible rooms and dry plaster. We agree which ceiling fittings you will remove and who will protect the floor.
- Preparation and spraying. On the day, we review the colours and agreed work. We protect the room, carry out the preparation and apply the required primer and paint for even, full coverage.
- Inspection and completion. We check coverage and the overall finish, remove the masking materials and clear away our waste. We then review the result together and discuss any points needing attention.

Just the ceiling, or the walls too?
If your walls are still in good condition, we can paint only the ceiling. Masking the walls and other fittings then needs extra care. Tell us what must remain as it is when you enquire.
When moving or renovating, it can be practical to have walls and ceilings spray painted together. We include both in one quote. If you choose different colours for walls and ceilings, we schedule an extra day: walls first, then ceilings.
Ceiling spray painting FAQs
Can you spray paint only the ceiling?
Yes. Tell us that the walls need to remain as they are and describe the flooring and fixed furnishings. We include the necessary protection in your quote. The rooms being painted must be empty on the day.
Will spray painting make a textured ceiling smooth?
No. Paint refreshes the colour but follows the ceiling’s texture. For a smooth result, the texture must first be removed or covered with a smooth finish. Discuss this with us beforehand so the preparation is clear.
Can you spray paint over water or smoke stains?
Tell us about the stains beforehand. We assess whether cleaning or a stain-blocking primer is needed. If there has been a leak, the cause must first be fixed and the ceiling must be dry. Paint alone is not always enough to prevent a stain from showing through again.
Is spraying a ceiling better than rolling it?
Spraying is particularly attractive if you want an even finish without roller marks and the room can be cleared and protected properly. For a small job, the extra masking work also affects the choice. Read more about spraying versus rolling ceilings.
How long does ceiling spray painting take?
We complete many home projects within one working day. The area, height and preparation determine how long your job takes. If the walls are also being painted in a different colour, we schedule an extra day for the colour change.
Can I request a quote without knowing the area?
Yes. Tell us which rooms are involved and any dimensions you know. We can measure the area during a visit. For sloping ceilings or double-height spaces, we also assess access.
