Spray painting newly plastered walls and ceilings

Would you like a smooth finish for newly plastered walls and ceilings in a new-build home or renovation? Spray painting new plaster creates an even, professional result. For a good finish, the plaster must be sufficiently dry, smooth and properly prepared. On this page, we explain why machine sanding and primer matter, the difference between plaster ready for roller painting and plaster ready for spraying, and the preparation included in our complete service. The price depends on the area and the condition of the surface, so always check our current rates for new plaster.

Spray painting new plaster in 3 steps

A smooth finish starts with good preparation. We check that the plaster is sufficiently dry, sand the surface, remove dust and repair minor damage. We then protect the areas that will not be sprayed and apply a suitable primer where needed. After that, we spray the wall paint.

Preparing and sanding the plaster

We machine-sand the new plaster to reduce minor imperfections and trowel marks, preparing the surface for an even paint finish.

Wall spray painting

Spray painting: two coats of top-quality paint

We spray the prepared surface with primer and wall paint in two coats. This gives the plaster an opaque finish in the agreed colour, without roller texture.

The finished result

Once dry, the result is an even paint finish that gives your room a well-kept appearance. Your chosen colour and the light work together to create the atmosphere.

What is the difference between plaster ready for roller painting and plaster ready for spraying?

Many people assume all plasterwork is the same, but there is a clear difference between plaster ready for roller painting and plaster ready for spraying. This determines which finishes are possible and whether any additional work is needed.

What is plaster ready for roller painting?

This means the wall is suitable for painting with a roller. The plaster must be completely smooth, without pits or ridges. Minor damage or scratches are repaired. Plaster ready for roller painting still needs careful preparation, especially if you want it spray painted.

What is plaster ready for spraying?

This means the surface has been specifically prepared for spray painting. The wall has been machine-sanded and any internal corners have been caulked. The surface must also be dust-free and even. Only then can you achieve the exceptionally smooth result that spray painting is known for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can wall paint be sprayed directly onto new plaster?

No. New plaster must always dry thoroughly and usually needs machine sanding first. We then apply a primer, followed by the wall paint.

What is wall paint with wet scrub resistance class 1?

Wet scrub resistance class 1 is the highest class for resistance to wear from cleaning. This paint is ideal for living rooms, stairwells and kitchens because it is easy to clean without damaging the paint film.

How long does spray painting take?

That depends on the size of the project, but on average we can spray paint an entire home within 1 to 2 days. Our efficient approach allows us to work quickly and precisely.
